What Should I Do the Night Before LASIK?

Tips to Prepare for Your Laser Eye Surgery

“Twas the night before your LASIK surgery
when all through the house,
not a creature was stirring…”

The night before your LASIK surgery, you may be feeling a little anxious and excited, and it might be a bit hard to get to sleep. After all, your long-awaited procedure is finally here! Even if you can’t wait to experience the benefits of your successful laser eye surgery, you might still have some butterflies anticipating the actual surgery. That is completely normal!

To help ease your nerves, what should you do the night before LASIK? We have some ideas.

Hydrate.
It is so important to drink lots of water in advance of your surgery. Hydration is key to your healing following the surgery. Also, a common side effect of LASIK is dry eye, and drinking plenty of water will help keep your eyes lubricated for your surgery.

Limit your alcohol intake.
We generally recommend that you avoid alcohol in the 24 hours leading up to your surgery, as alcohol can contribute to dry eyes. Consider relaxing with a hot cup of tea or sparkling water instead.

Lay out a comfortable outfit.
Comfort is key for your surgery day attire! Remember that following your surgery, you’ll be headed home to take a nap. Consider wearing your favorite loose-fitting clothes that you’ll be comfortable in when you arrive home, so you don’t have to change. Laying out your outfit the night before will also give you one less thing to worry about the morning of your surgery.

Confirm your ride.
On the day of your LASIK surgery, you will need a ride to and from LASIK Vision Centers of Cleveland. The day before your surgery, reconfirm your travel arrangements and send any necessary reminders to friends or family members who will be helping you.

Don’t use any fragranced lotions, soaps, or shampoos.
While a hot shower or bath the night before your LASIK surgery may help you relax, just remember not to use any fragranced products. You will want to arrive for your surgery with a freshly cleaned face, leaving your skin free of any contaminants that could irritate your eyes.

Review your paperwork, then get some rest.
Make sure you have any necessary paperwork completed. After that, you will simply want to set your alarm and try to get a good night’s rest! Sleep soundly knowing the LVC team will be excited to greet you in the morning and well prepared to perform your LASIK surgery.
