What To Expect
The LASIK journey begins with an initial consultation to confirm your candidacy and recommend a personalized treatment plan to you.
This consultation is also a chance to discuss everything you need to know about LASIK, from the recovery to pricing and financing options.
If you’re deemed to be a good candidate for LASIK (or another procedure), we’ll schedule your surgery for a date and time that fits with your schedule. We’ll also provide pre- and post-operative instructions for how to prepare and what you can expect from LASIK.
What To Expect Before LASIK
At Lasik Vision Centers of Cleveland, we believe knowledge is power, so we ensure our patients fully understand what LASIK is like ahead of their procedure. Not only do we provide extensive information at the initial consultation, you’ll also be given a list of things to do before your surgery, which will help further prepare you.
One week before LASIK
- Review the consent form and complete all the patient sections.
- Be ready to bring your method of payment with you on the surgery day.
- Fill any prescription medications you were given. Please bring them with you on the day of your surgery.
- Arrange for someone to drive you to and from your surgery. You can expect to be at our center for approximately two hours on the day of your procedure.
The night before LASIK
- Get plenty of rest.
- Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages. While one or two drinks is fine, dehydration is possible if you consume more than that, which can affect the outcome of your surgery.
To schedule a vision correction procedure, you’ll need to complete your free, initial consultation. This can be done at our center or your eye doctor’s office (if applicable)

What to Expect During LASIK
Right before your surgery, our team will remind you of the steps and ensure you have all necessary post-operative instructions. We’ll then give you anesthetic eye drops to numb the eyes, which will reduce discomfort during the procedure. We may additionally give you a mild sedative that can help you relax.
The LASIK procedure itself is usually very quick, one of its many benefits.
The procedure takes an average of 10 minutes, with the laser used for only a few seconds per eye.
What to Expect After LASIK
You can expect a quick recovery from LASIK. For most patients, they’re back to their normal routine within a day of the surgery, but with clearer vision.
While some slight discomfort immediately following the procedure is to be expected, the recovery is virtually painless. Side effects, if there are any, are usually mild and often quickly subside in the hours post-surgery. As one of the safest elective medical procedures available, complications from LASIK are also rare.
Following your surgery, you’ll be recommended to go home and rest for the remainder of the day. Please have someone available to drive you home from the clinic. Temporary, mild irritation or discomfort is normal, and can be treated with over-the-counter medications.
Dr. Eippert and his team will ensure you have detailed post-surgical instructions (including on how to apply your eye drops). We’ll also schedule you for a follow-up appointment the next day to evaluate how your eyes are healing.
